Group Commuting Bike Rides

What better way to try bicycle commuting for the first time or to get in your first miles of the season!  There are 20+ departure points throughout the Central New Hampshire region for riders to get into bike commuting.  Above is an editable Google map for people to identify possible routes, connect with the ride leaders and see departure times.
Click on the bike icons on this map to get details about ride leaders, destinations and departure times.  Group ride leaders will begin at the locations shown on the map.  The rides are meant to be safe, fun and at a moderate pace.  Whether you’ve never bicycle commuted or you're a veteran, there will be a Group Commute Bike Ride for you.  Join a group at the start or at any of the stopping points, or just meet everyone downtown Concord! Riders and leaders are asked the following:
  • Check out the map above and identify the ride you would like to participate in and contact the ride leader with any questions or comments.
  • Fill out this short survey.  For every new rider you recruit (see question #5), we’ll enter your name into a raffle for a prize pack from a local bike shop.  Also, this survey will help PATH collect data on carbon emissions reductions during Green Commute Week.
  • Wear helmets and follow the rules of the road at all times.  For a more complete list of safety and bicycle commuting tips, click here.
  • Review this booklet for ride leaders developed by the Granite State Wheelmen to get familiar with the ins and outs of group ride leadership.
Note: There will be no official group rides for the afternoon commute home.  However, riders are free to make arrangements with others to participate in afternoon commute rides. Need a place to park your bike?  You got it.  Check out this Concord bike parking map!

Bike Related Events

On May 17, May 18 and May 21 head to City Plaza, 7-9 a.m. for free breakfast foods and drinks from Stonyfield, Red Blazer, Works Bakery Café, In a Pinch Café and Café Indigo.  There will also be a bicycle check-in station with gear, prizes and a fix-a-flat station sponsored by Goodales Bike Shop and S&W Sports.  For more details about each event downtown, click here. After arriving at City Plaza, riders will head their separate ways to their final destinations.  However, that does not preclude riders from forming groups as desired.

On May 19 and May 20, ride leaders will begin at the listed locations and ride to their workplaces.  Riders may branch off anytime to make their way to their own final destinations.  For lunch, bicyclists are invited to come to all events by bicycling, walking, carpooling or take a CAT bus or trolley to Eagle Square and meet up with fellow green commuters to share stories about your experiences.  Events will be 11-1 p.m. and with free lunch from Boloco (May 19) and Hermanos Cocina Mexicana (May 20).  For more details about each event downtown, click here.

Don’t have time to stop by, but want a cup of Joe?  No problem.  Check out our “Commuter Coffee” partners like Einstein Brothers and In A Pinch Café and Bakery that are providing free beverages and food to bicycle commuters!

The Program for Alternative Transportation and Health (PATH) is working with it partners throughout the region to host the biggest and most exciting Green Commute Week in state history!
